The height of the Srivijayan Empire didn't last...
The Srivijayan Empire started to expand to Java and the Malay peninsula in the late 8th century. This gave them control over the Malacca Strait which gave them the ability to ask for charges on the Indian Ocean maritime Silk Routes.
Because of the kingdom's location, they were able to communicate with the upriver tribesmen and the coastal sea nomads. Their relationships with these two groups gave them control of certain critical points of trade that gave Srivijaya important resources in helping them gain power. The height of its dominion was when the Srivijaya Empire went as far as the Philippines in terms of their territory by the end of the 12th century. Records also mention that Srivijaya included two Sumatran kingdoms in Jambi and Palembang plus three Javan kingdoms.
An extensive community of Buddhist monks gained support from the success of the Srivijaya empire. Therefore, this empire became the center of Buddhist teachings. Lots of temples were built and more people visited the kingdom. Their influence can be seen especially in the construction of Borobudur, which was built by Sailandera Kings in Java who were heavily affected by the kingdom of Srivijaya.
